2010 CHAMPIONS RAMS 4 Team PRIMO Hall or Fame Weekend CAN AM
The Leominster Rams coached by Ray Richard captured the with a 4 to 1 victory over Team Primo coached by Frank McNulty. Team Primo beat the Cyclones 7 to 4 in the Qtr Final, in the Semi had a 5 to 2 win over Team Elite. The Rams edged the Hudson Celtics 3 to 2 in the Qtr Finals and then in the Semi nipped the Jets 2 to 1. The Final game a classic, exciting game saw Primo score first with 1:03 left in the first period. Rick Mastropetro (MVP) from Ryan & Sean Ferguson., the top line in the tourney. The Rams tied the game up at 2:49 of the 2nd period, Jeremy Goguen firing home a pass from Mike Colcord. Less than a minute later Rams Bobby Housser made an end to end rush setting up teammate Tim Richard with the go ahead goal. Rams Brian Reynolds scored in the 3rd to make it 3 to 1, from Steve Kendall (MVD). Rams added a empty netter, by vet Joe Russo, Brian Reynolds assisting. Goalies Rick Breau Rams (MVG) and Sandro Grutti, Team Primo were great in goal. Rams outshot Primo in the Game 28 to 12. Ricky Mastroperto was the Leading Scorer with 8 Goals & 12 Assists. Hall of Fame Inductee's were Ian Steveson of the Montreal Flames, Joe & Bruce Murray from the Niagara Falls TVM & Griffins..the 1st Team ever to win an Official Street Hockey tournament in 1972, and Jean Guy Gagon from ASHI & the Leominster Rams. Frank Napieracz also from the Flames was honored too, he was inducted in 1999. 2010 Maple Leaf Cup Results ...Another great year for all the travelling US teams and local Canadian teams at the Maple Leaf Cup tournaments in beautiful Niagara Falls. Over 750 players and 45 teams competed over 3 different weekends. The tournament which began in 1980 saw lots of action, plenty of great games and sportmanship all around. Plus a record setting game in Beaver B finals that went 8 full periods while Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne was the guest of honor dropping the Cadet A Final game ball. Full Summaries and Team Championship pictures will be in the News area. The 1st Women's US Nationals took place this past weekend in Leominster Ma with a field of 7 competitive teams. Liberty from Leominster and coached by Pauline Cormier defeated Stop the Madness from Greater Boston 3 to 0. The games were exciting and full of action Stop the Madness had defeated Lady Ninja's 11 to 2 in the Semi Final & DangleStorm of Athol Ma 3 to 1 in the Quarter Final. Danglestorm a strong favorite edged Liberty 2-1 in Round Robin, but the in the playoffs Liberty defeated RoadRash of Long Is NY 3 to 1 and then in the Semi finals shutdown the #1 seed Peanut Butter & Jelly of Pennsylvannia 2 to 0. The final game was 0 to 0 until 4:43 left in the 3rd period when Lynn Gould let a wrist shot fly from point to beat Liz Conner, Amy Miller assisted. Until this goal Liz Conner had turned aside 26 shots, stonewalling the Liberty offence. Just 40 second later Liberty's Sarah Proctor scored on a rebound, Callie Housser & Jill Powers assisting. Jill Powers sealed the deal with an unassisted goal a minute later and Liberty were crowned Champions. Liz Conners & Lynn Gould were both selected Player of the Game. Team USA Women's GM Mary O Halloran & her staff used this event as a scouting mission for the player selection of Teams USA in 2011 World Championships in Slovakia. Next for the Womens circut are the Internationals August 27- 29 in Niagara Fall Canada. The Gr Boston STARS captured the 2010 US NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS this past weekend with an exciting 2 to 1 Double Overtime win over the Leominster JETS. 16 teams fought for the coveted title, with many close games.
The STARS edged the NJ Supreme in the Semi and Team Primo both by the score of 2 to 1. STARS Peter Walters a veteran Coach of Street Hockey guided his team though all the close games. Dennis Beaupre was outstanding in goal winning the MVG award, stopping 39 shots many spectacular. Bobby Vorse was equal to the task turning aside 37 shots until Pat Maresco (MVP) of the STARS broke the goalie duel with 3:13 left in the 2nd Overtime when he stole a pass at the clearing line and rifled a snap shot past Vorse for the Championship. The the first two goals both in the 1st period were only seperated by 40 seconds. JETS Nick Caponi opened the scoring from Ryan DiBartolomeo & Ryan Pozericki. STARS Maresco tipped in a shot by Cody Kennedy to tie the match, Dave Purcell also assisting. Andrew Hildreth of the JETS was awarded the MVD. Leading Scorers for the US Nationals were Cody Warila of the RAMS with 7 Goals & 4 Assists also tied CYCLONES Doug Croteau with 4 Goals & 7 helpers. |
