The IDTA and ASHI proudly honor the memory of 4 great friends of the game, Steve Millette of Leominster &  San Antonio Texas, Ken White owner of 202 Sports Street Hockey Center in Athol Ma, and John Boucher of Leominster Ma, ( Boucher Flyers) sponsor, avid. Plus sadly Dan Renauld a young 21 yr old star player. All were great people and will be missed

Steve Millette first played street hockey in Leominster when the Center opened in 1974, he was a huge fan of hockey, played, coached and officiated. A decade ago Steve moved to San Antonio continued to coach and referee and then became a goal judge with the Rampage of the AHL. He passed away after a bout with cancer this past November and will be missed by all.

CHAMPIONS CROWNED

... 41 Teams and over 750 players competed for the Penguin Beaver and Cadet National titles A & B Level at the Leominster Dekhockey Center this past Memorial Day Weekend. 81 games later some very exciting games, some upsets and lots of action. This was the 36th year for the grand event that was founded by Raymond LeClerc in 1974.

Cadet A

Monroe Storm defeated the Leominster Whalers 4-2. The Whalers led 2-0 until late in the 2nd period when they  broke the game open with two goals 28 seconds apart, and then dominated the 3rd period to take a commanding 4 to 2 lead. Whalers scored just 11 seconds into the game on a shot by Cody Swift, Corey Wilson & Brandon Jones assisting. Whalers then got another with just 19 seconds left in the period an unassistied tally by Tyler Warila. Mid way through the game the Monroe Storm struck when Kyle Lafferty stole a ball to make the score 2-1. Just 28 seconds later Jonny Ruiz scored to tie the game. At 5:59 of the third period Ruiz got his second of the game blasting a slapshot to take the lead. Don Battaglini added the insurance goal 30 seconds later with snipe from 30 feet, Ruiz and Mike Giraldi assisting.

Beaver A

The Leominster Ma  Storm coached by Tony Johnson defeated Mike Malloy's Gloucester Township Panthers of New Jersey,  3 to 0 to capture the National title.  The Storm got a first period unassisted goal from Tyler Cuddahy and then with 19 seconds left made it 2 to 0 when Kyle Johnson converted a pass from Ryan Boucher. Early in the second period Tyler Cuddahy got his second goal of the game when he knocked in a pass from Zac Cormier to cinch the tilte. Both goalies played great Nick Michella for the Panthers and Andrew Carter got the shutout turning aside 16 shots.

Penguin A

Two powerful Penguin teams met in the final with the Leominster Ma Terriers coached by Joe Russon defeating Jamie Romano's Bellmawr NJ Bears 3 to 0. Brandon Garneau opened the scoring at 1:29 of the first period, Kayden Fennell assisting. Mid way through the 2nd period Joe Russo scored assisted by Ryan Leblanc and Devin Moran. Cullen Young scored an unassisted goal with just over a minute left to make it 3-0. Terriers goalie Brent Jeffery notched the shutout turing aside 14 shots.
